1stアルバム"Is This Real?"は歴史に埋もれた名盤。ゴツゴツした岩のようなギターに弱々しいドラムというインディらしいサウンドに親しみやすいメロディがのっている。ＲＥＴＵＲＮ　ＯＦ　ＴＨＥ　ＲＡＴ、Ｍｙｓｔｅｒｙ、Ｉｓ ｔｈｉｓ ｒｅａｌ？など次々と名曲が出てくる素晴らしいアルバムだ。二番の’Ｙｏｕｔｈ　ｏｆ　Ａｍｅｒｉｃａ’は陰鬱でダークな曲が目立つ。ヘヴィなサウンドになり曲の展開も多彩になった。Ｎｏ　ＦａｉｒやＷｈｅｎ　ｉｔ’ｓ　Ｏｖｅｒなど壮大な曲が印象的でＹｏｕｔｈ　ｏｆ　Ａｍｅｒｉｃａにいたっては10分にも及ぶ。一番のダークな部分を進化させた傑作。三番の’Ｏｖｅｒ　ｔｈｅ　Ｅｄｇｅ’は二番同様にダークな曲が多いが、前作よりも重苦しい。
Of all the bands that have ever come from the american Pacific Northwest, I'm going to say that the Wipers are the best. I've heard a lot about how 'influential' they were/are, but still nobody plays guitar like Greg Sage. His awkward chord progression, strummy riffs and weird hooks are the trademarks of He alone. I bought these three albums in a Zeno Records triple set for ￥8,700 (insanely expensive) on CDs! That should stand as the ultimate expression of love for a band. I needed them for an imminent road trip and I needed to hear Doom Town. Wipe 'till you bleed.
